Beginning Teachers’ Conference
OECTA: The Next Generation takes place on Friday, February 10th and Saturday, February 11th, 2006 in Mississauga. “Beginning teachers” are OECTA members with five years or less teaching experience, including occasional experience or work with other Boards. Eastern Unit is allocated 6 spaces. (Register on-line and forward a copy to the Unit Office)

Contract Update
Elementary Working Conditions Elementary working conditions remain status quo for the 2005-06 school year. November 25th, the autumn Board designated Professional Activity day, remains 50% teacher directed.
The P.A. day on February 3rd, 2006 is 75% teacher directed (36.01 d) ii) and the June 28th, 2006 P.A. day is 75% teacher directed (36.01 d) iii).
The two PPD days and two early dismissal days continue as in previous years.
Article 37 Supervision (Elementary)
37.01 Supervision shall be defined as the time teachers are assigned to supervise students outside of the 300 minute instructional day
37.02 A joint Board and OECTA Supervision Committee has been formed to look at supervision schedules from all schools to reduce the amount of supervision in the elementary panel. T
he Committee will review the amount of supervision scheduled for each elementary teacher and analyze best practices, looking to implementing best practices by January 6th, 2006.
Article 37.03 Supervision duties should be assigned equitably.

- vital correspondence from Provincial OECTA and the Unit Office reaches members through the staff rep. in your school or by direct mailings.
