OTF Petition
College of Teachers Fee – Refund and Reduction

As you are aware, on December 19th, 2004, Education Minister Gerard Kennedy issued a statement to all teachers indicating that PLP’s and the recertification process would no longer exist. He also sent correspondence to the College of Teachers communicating such decision to them and indicating that various structures and programs within the College would change as a result of the repeal.

At the recent meeting of OTF Governors, representatives of the College of Teachers reported out a surplus of over $11 million dollars.

It was the unanimous position of all OTF governors that the College of Teachers fee should be reduced. To that end, a petition has been appended and we ask all staff reps to make it available to teachers and encourage them to support it. (please photocopy extra pages for teachers to sign if it is necessary).

We ask that the petition be returned to the unit office – by courier – by Monday May 10th, 2004. By meeting this timeline, teacher petitions from all Ontario schools can be presented to the next meeting of the Council of the College of Teachers the end of May.
