New Year’s is a time for resolutions. Here are few great activities for teachers to resolve to get involved in with their students:
Spirit of Mandela Poster Contest
The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund is holding a colour poster contest for individual or groups of students from K-12 in Canada. Teachers must register online at www.spiritofmandela.ca, where information about the contest can be found. The contest deadline is February 20, 2009.
One Million Acts of Green
The Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF) has partnered with CBC Television and the program, The Hour, to amass One Million Acts of Green this school year. The idea behind the campaign is that one small act from each individual can make a big difference to the environment. Students (and teachers) can register their acts on the highly interactive website- www.onemillionactsofgreen.co.
Art for Aids
Attention high school Art teachers: if you are interested in the chance of twinning your school with an African school for the purpose of raising awareness of Aids, and to teach students collage techniques that would in turn be used to produce prints to fundraise for communities affected by Aids, contact the Unit office. One Catholic high school in Ontario will be selected by draw to participate in this unique opportunity that is sure to bring an enriching experience to you, your students and the school community.
