Welcome to the website of the Eastern Unit of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association.

The Eastern Unit represents 850 elementary and secondary teachers in 48 schools across our region.

This website is designed to provide our members with information about the services and programs of OECTA, both at the local and provincial level. It is our hope that our website will also serve as a resource to those who wish to learn more about our local association.

PDT Professional Development Fund

All permanent teachers working for CDSBEO and members of Eastern OECTA are entitled to a one time PD grant of up to $ 300.00. The grant will be pro-rated for permanent part time teachers. This money must be used before the end of the 2011-12 school year. For full details of what this money can be used for as well as the documents that need to be completed, please click here.

Young Authors Awards/Prix Jeunes Écrivains

Once again OECTA is sponsoring the annual Young Authors Awards/Prix Jeaunes Écrivains for students.

There are three levels of completion: School, Unit and Provincial. Teachers can submit pieces of writing in either three or four different categories depending on the division: Short Story, Poem and Nonfiction for students from JK to Grade 6 and Short Story, Poem, Play and Nonfiction for students from Grade 7 to Grade 12. Each entry must have an “Entry Form” stapled to the front cover and needs to be received by your OECTA school representative (Staff Rep) by March 1, 2012.

A committee at the school level will judge the submissions and forward the one (1) winning submission in each of the categories to the local unit office by March 7, 2012. A unit committee will judge all school submissions and send the one (1) winning submission in each category to OECTA Provincial, where all unit submissions will be judged for the Provincial Awards. Winners are announced in June at the Council of Presidents meeting.

For more information and forms that need to be completed click here.
